Last year at school, there was a mock election, with sixth form students campaigning for political parties, which were then voted for by the whole school. In order to have a bit of fun and improve my public-speaking skills, I decided to set up the UKIP campaign (not because of my political views). Having recruited some other members, in the space of two weeks I wrote several speeches and performed three of them in House assemblies. We won a greater percentage of the vote than Labour and the Green Party, beaten only by the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. I found participating in this a really enjoyable and useful experience.
